Charity Relay Cycle
In what were ideal conditions, South East Road Club kicked off their 220km Charity relay cycle with an early start on Saturday morning last. The first group rolled out from Coral Leisure Centre under the cover of dark at 7.30am, with the last group taking to the road at 2.30pm for the final lap of five to complete the 220km circuit, with a number of members stepping up to complete a couple of laps during the day. A special mention must go to the very energetic quintet of Derrick Evans, Tony Barnes, Neil Chadwick, Ronan Short and Jay Earls who completed all five laps, spending seven hours and twenty two minutes in the saddle. In total twenty eight SERC members were involved with Jasmin Chadwick, Brenda Byrne, Mary Nolan Hickey, Louise Flood, Gareth Mitchell, Paddy Byrne and Denis Kenny who recently joined the club taking part in their first of many cycling events. The event was organised by South East Road to raise funds for two local charities, Arklow Cancer Support ( www.arklowcancersupport.ie ) & Talk To Tom ( www.talktotom.ie ). These organisation rely solely on public support and the South East Road Club would like to thank all those who have made donations to their iDonate page ( https://www.idonate.ie/…/11391765_serc-cycle4life-relay… ). All monies raised will go directly to the charities, the page will remain open for anther couple of weeks to allow people to make a donation no matter how small so that both charities can continue to support those in need at this crucial time. South East Road Club welcome any one who would like to return to or take up cycling as a way of keeping both physically and mentally fit in what are very challenging times. We must also mention three other people who took part in the Cycle4Life event, Firstly “THE LEGEND” that is Michael Sheils, Michael has taken part in charity cycling events across the Globe and it was great to see him out yesterday doing what he loves, cycling and chatting & chatting….From one legend to another, we would like to thank club member Mary Nolan Hickey for completing a 44km lap, a week before taking part in her 41st Dublin City Marathon, best of luck to Mary and all who are taking part..To finish the club send best wishes and a speedy recovery to Johnny O’ Toole.
