South East Road Club are hosting a 220km relay charity cycle on Saturday the 17th October. Club members will complete the 44Km route five times in aid of two local organisations, Arklow Cancer Support (ACS) and Talk to Tom. See details below. The club have selected these two charities because unfortunately there is no family in Arklow or the surrounding area that has not been affected by cancer or experienced issues relating to mental health. The demand for the invaluable services that both these organisations provide to the local community is growing and the cost of providing such important support is also increasing. Both charities rely heavily on funding raised by volunteers, local groups and clubs and we as a local cycling club are running this event to raise much needed funds to allow ACS and Talk To Tom continue to help and support those in need of their vital services.

Talk To Tom are a community based suicide prevention, mental health awareness and bereavement support charity. Talk To Tom has its origins in 2012 when a group of like minded individuals – who had all lost loved ones or friends through suicide – realised that there was no mental health service available in their area and set about to make a change. We have grown from a small trust to become a fully regulated and registered charity. Aside from guiding over 2,000 people with suicidal ideation’s through our doors to receive the help they need, we have also trained thousands in vital suicidal awareness courses such as QPR – which we godfathered into the country. While other organisations later followed suit – they charged up to €75pp for the privilege. We continue to deliver the programme for free.As of 2019 we continue to receive no state or grant funding and rely entirely on the kindness of the public to help keep our doors open. Our MissionTo be there for our community at its darkest hour by providing freely accessible, professional services to all. To contribute – in our small way – to an Ireland where suicide and stigma have been replaced by hope, care, love and acceptance. To spread our ideas and vision as far as we can.
