Gorey 3 day- Final day

Well done to Joe Christian who finished strongly on the last stage of the Gorey 3 day, in what was a miserable wet day on the bike.

John Maguire, unfortunately didn’t take to the start line this morning owing to the injuries he sustained during a fall on stage one.

From the word, go heading out from Gorey towards Carnew the pace went up and inevitably there were riders being dropped here and there along the course.
As the race progressed heading along down into the outskirts of Tullow, there were attempted breakaways ,the most they managed to get over the main group was a meager 20’s.
The majority of the early attempts to get away were quickly quashed by the main bunch.

At about the 50kms mark a group of at least 15 riders (maybe more ) broke away from the main peloton and started to build a comfortable lead, the breakaway was unchecked by the main bunch, they eventually stretched out their advantage to just under 2 minutes .

The eventual stage winner and the overall winner came from the breakaway group.
Daniel Kirwan from Lucan, who was 4th overall this morning, 10 seconds adrift of the Yellow jersey of Liam Blanchfield, took the overall win.
Matt Lynch, the 16 year old Mountivation rider, took his second stage win today on the Blessington road.
( He must have been disappointed after coming in just after the main bunch yesterday and was hungry for a second victory. )

So that’s the 2012 edition of the Gorey 3 day done and dusted.

Well done again to John and Joe who rode a great race and flew the SERC colours proudly.

Thanks again to all members who helped out in any way to get the lads through the 3 days and to the committee members for their behind the scenes work.

Thanks to Derek Webb who put in a Trojan amount of work supporting the lads in the car and for the use of his teach for Race HQ and massage parlour :)

Gorey 3 day- Stages 2 and 3

Today saw the lads take on an Individual TT in the morning followed by a tough 4 laps of the Craanford circuit

in the afternoon.

John finished strongly in the bunch with Joe coming in a few minutes after.

Tomorrow’s final stage sees the peleton heading out from Gorey and back out to Blessington for the finale.

Best of luck to the Lads for the penultimate stage.

Yesterday’s stage was apparently the fastest stage so far on record on the Gorey 3 day.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped the team so far and also the Wexford Wheelers for their backup support on the road.
