Tony Breen off to Cork

Tony Breen is off to Cork at the end of the month for the weekend to part take in the first of the junior training sessions been organised by Dan Curtin and others incharge of the national developement squads. This is a stepping stone to hopefully make one the regional if not the Irish team.

The club would like to wish Tony well for the weekend and also he is one of the first riders in the club to avail of one to one coaching programme for our juniors. We hope he can build on last years performance and really show his true potential….

I have been onto the Springhill hotel in Kilkenny, part of the Brennan Hotel group,and I have a date for a proposed trip away next Feb.

On Feb 12th (saturday)… I am planning a cycle from Arklow down to Gorey and over too Kilkenny through Ferns etc.. approx 110-120Km. I have a car sorted to carry luggage there and back. When we arrive we get soup/sambos and tea/coffee…. one evening meal, bed and full irish breakfast.. all for €77 each. This includes full use of the gym/pool and sauna…

Club AGM 2010

The SERC had its AGM on Friday night last and over 40 club members turned up. The meeting went off well and reviewed what was a great year for the club. There was some minor adjustments made to the committee, Derek Webb stood down as President but remained on as secretary. Popular club member Willy Murphy is the new club President, so all bow in his presence. Mick Considine left the PRO job for his new title as Youth Development officer. John Maguire is the new Max Clifford in the PRO job… James Forde and Ciaran Furlong stepped down as treasurer and assist treasurer. We thank them both for their excellent work for the past 2 years. Jaqi Gannon his the new person with the purse strings. After that there was not much change on the committee… however we are delighted to announce Derrick Evans as Club Captain.

The club has a busy calendar for 2011. It plans to run its normal Hamper race, the Conor Mc Cabe Memorial. Club Calendars will be on sale in the coming days… We have a bag packing day planned in a few weeks in Dunnes, The 3 Peak Challenge is been planned for April, a Youth 2 day in July, The Falling Leaves Classic in August.

The club are also looking at a fundraising ride from Malin head to Mizen head, the date has to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The club is also in Feb 2011 rolling out Sprocket Rocket in schools across the South East. We are in talks with schools to put this in place for 2011 and signing up more schools on a weekly basis. More information on this in the coming weeks also.

The club is also launching ‘Operation 3 Peak Challenge’ this month and have already signed up 12 new club members in the past month who are part taking in this great challenge. Its not too late for anybody ready this to contact the club and get more info, as training doesn’t start until Jan ’11…

Apart from the regular club spins from Arklow at 9.40 from opposite Fern Hill saturdays and sundays. The Club also has a group leaving every sat and sun at 10am from the new bike shop Revolve… new riders are always welcome to come along….
